Before and during the first semester of the third year you will read from a selection of British print media. For students entering the seminar in 2010 this will include:
- Selections from The New Internationalist (an alternative media monthly magazine dealing with global issues) New Internationalist Japan
- A selection of current and old newspaper articles about the Royal family and the death of Princess Diana
- A selection from the humorous cartoon book series "How to be British", that illustrates British stereotypes
- Selections from the book Bridget Jones' Diary by Helen Fielding
- Short reading passages by Kevin Mark
- Internet articles on different topics
- The screenplays of the films The Queen and Bridget Jones's Diary
You will be given some training in reading skills, and you are also encouraged to read independently in English as much as possible on any topics that interest you.
You will also use the software LexiSuite, created by Kevin Mark, which will help you not only with your reading but also your listening and vocabulary development.
